Cowley Drug

I can still hear the back door close behind me as I

enter “my candy store,” and  I smell the very distinct

scent that says Cowley Drug.  With my red two-wheeler

parked out back, I rush down the sloped entrance and

stop at the old-fashioned soda machine to buy a 35

cent soda.  I take off the bottle cap… POP! Right there

at the soda machine, I guzzle my drink.

Those were the best sodas ever! It was at Cowley Drug that I had my first brush with the law.  I must have been four, maybe five, and I was with my big brother, Chris.  My crime? I stole a piece of penny candy.   Chris made me go back and apologize.  To this day, there are few things as frightening as the memory of that red-headed old woman and her very stern demeanor.  I am certain she scared the sin right out of me; my days of robbery started and ended that day at Cowley Drug.
